Week 2 in the Tank

Sherwood Sharks – Sherwoodsharks.com

What a fantastic start to the season with a record number of swimmers at our Friday Night Club Night. Families were treated to a free sausage sizzle and lucky door prize in addition to many fine performances by our enthusiastic Sharks! Our Squad swimmers have completed their second week of training with our coaches, honing their skills and fitness in our morning and afternoon sessions!

100 Sharks

New enrolments are always welcome. We are aiming for 100 Sharks in Term 4 and are getting very close. See our website for details on how to become a part of the action.

Fees are due

Please be aware that Friday 13th October is the cut-off date for fee payment for Term 4. As from Monday 16th October any student who has not paid in full will not be permitted in the water. If you have any concerns or queries please contact our Treasurer at sherwoodsharksqld@gmail.com

Committee Members Needed

The Sherwood Sharks is run by a Committee of parent volunteers. As you can imagine, we are always on the lookout for new members to assist in the many duties that allow us to keep the Sharks in action. Without a Committee, there will be no Swim Club. We have several members whose children will be moving onto High School at the end of the year and we need new members to keep the Club in action. Please consider how you could help! Talk to any of our Committee members or email us at sherwoodsharksqld@gmail.com for more information.

Skills Session

Our Skills Session last Friday was met with great enthusiasm and a large number of participants. Generally speaking, over a half hour session, students will continuously swim 25m laps whilst focusing on a skill set. As such these sessions are not suitable for Learn to Swim or Mini Squad Swimmers. Their purpose is to refine skills, not to teach children how to swim. We apologise for any confusion over this matter last Friday night. We hope that the changes we have made will be beneficial to all concerned.

We have decided to split the session according to ability levels.

Intermediate Squad Skills will take place between 4.15pm and 4.45pm.

Senior Squad Skills will take place between 4.45pm and 5.15pm.

All Sharks members (both Squad and Club) who meet the above criteria, are welcome to attend.

Friday Night Club

Please arrive by 5.30pm for race registration. As always, we must close registration at 5.45pm to allow for a 6pm start.

2017/2018 Club Captains

On Friday 20th October we will be taking nominations for our new season Club Captains. Students in Year 5 will be eligible to nominate and must take the following criteria and duties into consideration.

2017 Criteria for Club Captains

Demonstrate high levels of leadership and personal behavior

Nominees must have been an active member of the Sharks for at least one season.

Assist in duties at the regular Club Meets (ie lane ropes, equipment, assisted swim)

Assist in leading and guiding club members in their conduct, sportsmanship, and swimming achievements

Assist in younger swimmer development through regular attendance at club meets and carnivals

Represent and lead the club at carnivals and other events when required

Assist in supporting fundraising events through encouraging and increasing participation by club members.

Nominees will then present a short 2-minute speech at Club Night on Friday 27th of October to introduce themselves and explain why they would make a great Swim captain. Each Club member will then vote and the new Captains and Vice-Captains will be announced the following week at the Club Championships. There will be a boy and girl Captain and a boy and girl Vice Captain.
