Seven Sharks ventured to Chandler over the past 3 days to compete at the State Primary School Swimming Championships. The level of competition at these championships is simply amazing and to have seven swimmers qualify to swim at this level is incredible.
Julia Hegarty had an incredible meet. Julia finished 15th in her 50m backstoke in a Personal Best time of 36.60. This fast swim gave her enormous confidence leading into her 100 Backstroke where she swam another amazing PB of 1.18.15 and qualified for the final where she finished 9th. This caps a tremendous season for Julia.
Harrison Raymond, Torwen Eerkens, and Will O’Meara all got their first taste of swimming at these championships. Harrison swam a fast 1.13.39 in his 100m Freestyle and a 33.48 in his 50m Freestyle. Will swam 36.52 in his 50m Freestyle which is right on his PB. Torwen finished in the top 15 in both of her races. She swam 1.44.8 in her 100m Breaststroke and 46.89 in the 50 where she finished 11th overall.
Adam Thompson finished 13th in his 100 Breaststroke and qualified for the final in the 50m Breaststroke with a time of 42.75. Adam backed up this great heat swim with a fantastic performance in the final where he finished 7th.
Lottie Forno had another successful State Championships. Lottie finished 5th in the final of 50m Butterfly with a scorching time of 34.54. Lottie also finished 6th in the 50m Freestyle final where she did another Personal Best time of 31.06. Lottie also swam the 100 Freestyle and 50 Backstroke at these championships.
Yinte Eerkens picked up a bronze medal in the 100m Breaststroke. She swam 1.29.9 in the heats and improved on this time in the final to swim 1.29.0 and claim 3rd place. Yinte also swam a huge PB in the 50m Breaststoke of 40.2 where she finshed an amazing 4th in the final. Yinte has now been selected to swim at the National Championships in Sydney later this year. A fantastic achievement.
All of these swimmers can be incredibly proud of their performances at this meet.
