It’s hard to believe but the end of season is approaching. Here’s an update on events over the next few weeks…
CLUB NIGHT THIS WEEK
A reminder that this week, we are running only a mini Club night, as we are participating in the Oxley Cup on Sunday 11 March at the Graceville State School pool.
This week’s Club night will start at 5.30 sharp. Gates will open at around 5.00 pm. The program will involve only one individual race per swimmer and, time permitting, a couple of relay races will also be held. The team for the Oxley Cup will be announced and team members will be presented with their Oxley Cup race caps. 25 m swimmers should see Sharon Finucan at the beginning of Club night; 50 m swimmers should see Adam Hoskings.
Please note the Canteen will not be operating a BBQ or supplying dinner. Snacks and drinks will however still be available for purchase.
OXLEY CUP RETURNS!
The famous Oxley Cup returns this year!! For those new to the Club this is an annual meet at which the Oxley, Graceville and Sherwood Clubs compete.
This year the carnival takes place on Sunday 11 March at the Graceville State School pool. Warm up will commence at 1 pm for a 1.30 pm start. All swimmers will have been pre-nominated for their races by Adam so please check the program on the day for your events if you are unsure. Caps presented at Club night on 9 March are to be worn. If you are unable to attend Club night we will have your cap available on the day.
We will be seeking a number of volunteers to help out with timekeeping duties. Please put your hand up to ensure the carnival runs as smoothly as possible.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
The end of the swimming season is approaching and that means Club Championships. This year they’ll take place on 18 March at the Sherwood State School pool: 1 pm warm up for a 1.30 pm start.
To be eligible to swim you need to be a financial member of the club. This year we will not apply the requirement of having swum at 5 Club nights. To be eligible for Age Champion, swimmers must swim in all 4 strokes and, if aged 10 years and over, complete the 100 m medley event. However, Club Championship are not just for the best swimmers, but for all our Club swimmers, so we hope everyone can attend. Swimmers can swim in less than 4 strokes (but will not then qualify for Age Champion).
Events and distances are:
6yr and under, 7yr, 8yr, 9yr – 25m all strokes
10yr, 11yr, 12yr, 13yr and over – 50m all strokes and 100 m medley race
Swimmers may only swim the distance specified for their age (taken to be the age of the child on 18 March).
To participate at Club Championships, you must nominate yourself and the events you wish to participate in. To do this, see Vanessa Raymond or Yasmin Went in person, or, you can nominate by email to Vanessa Raymond. Nominations close at 5pm on Wednesday 14 March. No late nominations will be accepted. Yasmin will be approaching parents at this week’s Club night and at the Oxley Cup to check whether your children will be nominating. There may be some adjustments to the races nominated for (to cater for the distance requirements set out above).
We will be seeking a number of volunteers to help out with timekeeping duties on the day. Please put your hand up to ensure the event runs as smoothly as possible.
We will run a BBQ to supply free sausages and bread. The canteen will have drinks and snacks for sale as well.
CLUB PRESENTATION NIGHT
This will take place on Friday 23 March from 5.30 pm, at the Sherwood Pool. BYO plate of party food to share. The canteen will have its remaining supplies of drinks and snacks for sale, but there will be no BBQ or dinner supplied. We look forward to seeing you all there!
